Princeville Makai opened in 1971 on Kauai’s North Shore — lakes, ironwood, six holes on the ocean, the palisades stacked behind Hanalei. Jones came back in 2009 and put paspalum on it. Pali View is the lagoon and the Norfolk pines. The Arc is a rainbow that sat still long enough to be a photograph. The Lip is the bunker you fly or you sit in and look at the Pacific.
