Jack Nicklaus & Desmond Muirhead

Jack built a course in Ohio so the Memorial would have a home. He has been remodeling it ever since.

Nicklaus named it after Muirfield in Scotland, where he completed his first career Grand Slam. Dublin, Ohio, 1974 — parkland, water, a granite wall of honorees. The PGA Tour’s Memorial Tournament has been here since 1976. Sixteen is the water par 3. The Memorial is the putting green against that wall. T. Douglas photographed it in early September light.
